Hepasona - Understanding the best route to market for a new Hepatitis test kitInventors: Ernawati Arifin Giri-Rachman, Ph.D Project Owner: Kania Andiyanti PT Rekacipta Bioteknologi Indonesia is a biotechnology start-up developing diagnostic kit production technology. Their first product, Hepasona, is an ELISA-based diagnostic kit that qualitatively detects the presence of the Hepatitis B virus in the human body. Indonesia currently imports a high level of diagnostic kit products, especially for virus-based diseases. Therefore it is a key strategic focus for Indonesia to reduce the dependence on importing diagnostic kits. The aim is that this will reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imports, and also reduce the costs of these tests. The inventors have been developing a new Hepatitis B kit since 2017. As a first step, the inventors successfully mastered the technology for producing ELISA- and immunochromatography-based (rapid tests) diagnostic kits. With this skill, they were able to successfully develop various kits, such as a Hepatitis B diagnostic kit (qualitative), Hepatitis B diagnostic kit (quantitative), and an anti-Hepatitis B diagnostic kit. The resulting kit to detect Hepatitis B was shown to have 100% specificity and sensitivity. The question for the i-Team is to investigate the best routes to market for the Hepasona test kit. For example, who will purchase the kits, and who will decide whether to use the Hepasona test or competitive tests. Medical markets have complex value chains, and the feedback from the i-Team’s market research will help the inventors develop an appropriate strategy for deploying the Hepasona test as widely as possible within the Indonesia market. |
An AI-based tool to measure corporate cultureInventors: Dr. Henndy Ginting Project Owner: Dr. Henndy Ginting
Corporate culture is crucial to an organization's success, as it influences teamwork, productivity, efficiency, and customer service ability. However, there has yet to be a consensus on measuring corporate culture. Most tools used for measuring corporate culture are self-reported questionnaires, which are prone to faking. The inventors have developed a machine learning text-analysis projective assessment for corporate culture using a case study of one of Indonesia's largest state-owned telecommunications companies, which has recently undergone significant organizational changes, including digital transformation. The method uses narrative stories written by the respondents in response to the Thematic Apperception Test, which are then analysed using machine learning techniques to measure the respondents’ subconscious behaviours. The results of the case study show that this method is expected to be more reliable and remove the bias shown by traditional questionnaire-based measurements. The challenge for the i-Team is to investigate the market interest for this type of tool, including looking at what techniques companies use currently (if any), and the types of situations where they would want to measure their internal culture. |
Cosysense project - A smart controller for air conditioning in commercial buildingsInventors: Dr. Matias Acosta & Dr. Sebastian Hortsmann Project Owner: Dr. Matias Acosta
By 2050, air conditioning systems will contribute 18% of worldwide CO2 emissions. Reducing the cooling by 1C can save up to 15% of the energy used and emissions generated. In addition the majority of building occupants will usually be unhappy with the level of cooling provided, but have no way to provide this feedback. Cosysense provides a net zero service to commercial buildings like office and coworking spaces. They supply plug-and-play sensors which collect user comfort data, indoor environment, and air conditioning (HVAC) power. The sensor measurements are processed with a novel AI model that remotely controls the air conditioning system to improve the internal environment. The AI optimises occupants' comfort in real time to reduce HVAC energy costs and quantifies the reduction in CO2 emissions. Cosysense are initially focusing on UK and European markets, but would like to expand to ASEAN markets in the future. The question for the i-Team is to investigate the market potential for the technology in Jakarta and other large Indonesian cities. This will include interviewing relevant stakeholders in order to understand who the potential customers would be for this technology – for example, this might be the building occupants or the landlords or even the equipment manufacturers. |
Within the dynamic landscape of Institut Teknologi Bandung, i-Teams pivots its focus on two riveting realms: health technology and AI. Two projects from ITB and one project from Cambridge University. The canvas we offer spans from groundbreaking computer software innovations to paradigm-shifting medical technology advancements. However, our scope transcends boundaries, delving into the unexplored domains of humanities and social sciences, where innovation knows no limits.
